Kansas wheat harvest moves northward

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- The Kansas wheat harvest is winding down in some southern counties, and just getting started farther north.
Tuesday's edition of a daily harvest bulletin prepared by industry groups said the AG Mark terminal in Concordia had a record day Monday. More than 610 trucks hauled in 512,800 bushels of wheat, for the largest one-day total in the company's 10-year history.
Harvest is slowing down in the Linn area. Test weights have ranged from 60 to 63 pounds per bushel, with some fields yielding better than 70 bushels an acre.
But the yield in Stafford and surrounding areas has been in the 20-bushel range. Stafford farmer Randy Fritzemeier blames heavy rain and flooding.
