Trial begins in Portis, Kan. slaying

Eds: APNewsNow.

PORTIS, Kan. (AP) -- Jury selection begins Monday in north-central Kansas in what is considered one of the most violent crimes in Osborne County in recent memory.

Kenneth Wilson of Salina is charged with premeditated first-degree murder of Portis resident Jeffery "Scott" Noel during a burglary in March 2008.

Wilson also faces charges of aggravated burglary and criminal possession of a firearm.

The trial is scheduled to last two weeks. If convicted, Wilson faces the possibility of life in prison.

Murder Penalty in KS: 5/28/2009
It seems too bad that the State will be saddled with the life-long care and keeping of Kenneth Wilson assuming he gets life without parole... Based on the news of his conviction and the apparent lack of the death penalty in Kansas, he probably lives the rest of his life in prison. That's a shame - for fifty bucks...
