Sara Beth Deines, age 30, of Lincoln, NE, died June 20, 2014, in a scuba-diving accident at Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Born March 12, 1984, in Overland Park, KS, the oldest child of Peggy and Stan Chappell. Graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 2002 and from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in 2006. She majored in social work and Spanish and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. Married her college sweetheart Chris Deines on June 5, 2010, at the Village Presbyterian Church, her home church, in Prairie Village, Kansas. Sara worked for the DHHS, handling Medicaid and long-term care issues. She loved children and had great concern for the poor and disadvantaged. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling and had been to Spain, Italy, Romania, Mexico and the Caribbean. Sara was the head of registration for Anime Nebraskon, which puts on a convention in Omaha each year. Sara and Chris purchased a house in south Lincoln in 2011, and she discovered a love of gardening and had a yard full of plants, flowers and fruit trees. Sara was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Jessie Chappell, and Mildred Shibe. She is survived by her husband, Chris; her sister, Abigail Chappell, Liberty, Missouri; her parents, Peggy and Stan Chappell, Overland Park, Kansas; her grandfather, Robert Shibe, Shawnee, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Sara's life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday (6-28-14) at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd.
