COLBY --  Picking up just its ninth win of the season, the Colby High School girls' basketball team clicked on all cylinders Friday night.

That helped the Eagles notch one of the biggest upsets in the postseason as they knocked off top-seeded Thomas More Prep-Marian in the semifinals of the Class 4A Division II sub-state at the Colby Community Building.

Colby hit all eight of its 3-pointers, jumping out to a 17-3 lead to start the game, then hung on to knock off the Monarchs, 63-53.

The win pushed Colby into Saturday night's sub-state title game against Concordia, while TMP ended its season at 17-4 with its third loss since putting together a 14-game winning streak this season and moving as high as No. 2 in the KBCA 4A Division II rankings.

The Monarchs, which were ranked No. 3 in the final rankings, hit just four of their first 22 shots, and trailed 32-14 at intermission.

Then in the second half, Colby (9-11) matched every spurt TMP put together, but the Monarchs could never get closer than within seven points. Melissa Pfeifer finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for TMP, while Megan Koenigsman had 17 points. Shaila Giebler and Brenly Terrell each had 22 points as they combined for Colby's eight 3's.
