Auction, speaker will highlight dinner

Auctioneer Brandon Pfeifer of Pfeifer Brothers Auction, Ellis, will auction crafts and home-baked goods at the Hays After 5 Christian Women's Group at at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Pam's Bakery Shop, 230 E. Eighth.

"Trials, Tears, and Triumphs" will be the theme of speaker Carol Newsom, Lincoln, Neb.

Newsom has a master's degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master's degree in social work and counseling from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She said throughout all of life's circumstances, she "has found grace in the midst of trials and mercy in the midst of hardship."

Divorce and Beyond will begin next week

Beginning Tuesday, the information and support group Divorce and Beyond will be offered to people who are divorced, have filed for a divorce or are legally separated.

The group, open to all denominations, will meet at Catholic Charities, 2707 Vine, Ste. 17, Northridge Plaza, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays for eight weeks. The charge is $10 for educational materials. No enrollment will be accepted after the Oct. 9 session. Registration is required by calling (785) 625-2644 or (877) 625-2644.

Heritage workshop deadline nearing

SALINA -- Are you interested in the past? Are you proud of your heritage and want it remembered? "Embrace Your Heritage" is a workshop for local church historians. The purpose of the workshop is to provide local church historians and interested people with information on how to record, preserve and present their histories.

The event is sponsored by the Kansas Area Commission on Archives and History of the United Methodist Church. However, it is open to anyone regardless of conference or denomination who is interested in recording, preserving or presenting local church history.

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 at Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina. Registration is $25 and includes lunch. Deadline for registration is Oct. 19.
