The Fort Hays State University baseball team finished its three-game homestand against MIAA rival Emporia State on Sunday with a 12-0 loss.

The Tigers were swept by the No. 15 Hornets by a combined score of 32-5. Sunday’s loss was the seventh straight for Fort Hays (7-17, 1-11). The Tigers last win was 8-7 against Central Oklahoma on Mar. 5.

The Hornets got off to a quick start scoring seven runs in the first inning, aided by two of Fort Hays’ five errors. Off the Tigers’ errors, Emporia State (19-4, 8-1) scored eight unearned runs.

Austin Liverant (0-1) took the loss the for Tigers on the mound. He went just one-third of an inning, giving up four runs (three earned), walked three and gave up just one hit.

Matt Slauter picked up the win for Emporia State. He struck out five and gave up two hits in four innings of work.

The Tigers will host Washburn for a single game Tuesday at Larks Park. The game starts at 4 p.m.
