Skyler Tebo had his best round so far at the NJCAA golf championship in Newton Thursday, carding a 6-over 78 to move up two spots in the leaderboard to 87th at 30-over.
The Garden City Community College golfer began Thursday’s third round at Sand Creek Station golf course much the way he did Wednesday, with four bogeys on his first five holes. But, from there, he had just two more holes over par, and birdied the par-4 sixth.
He double bogeyed the par-4 11th and bogeyed the par-5 16th.
After rounds of 80 on Tuesday and 88 Wednesday, 78 on Thursday was a welcome rebound for Tebo, who finishes the tournament with the fourth and final round Friday, when he tees off at 7:40 a.m. on the 10th hole.
Indian Hills (Iowa) leads the team standings at 8-under, shooting 280 Thursday, while Dodge City is sixth at 5-over and Hutchinson is eighth at 34-over. Odessa College’s Vetle Maroy is the individual leader at 8-under, after carding a 66 Thursday. Hutchinson’s Chase Coble holds the lowest score for a Jayhawk Conference player, sititng in 12th at 2-over.
