David F. “Fred” (Doc) Erwin Jr. D.V.M., 84, died Monday, May 18, 2015, at Russell Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 12, 1931, in rural Sumner County to David Fred Sr. and Freda (Weyen) Erwin. He was a 1948 graduate of Burden High School. He attended Southwestern College, Winfield, for a year and then in Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, where he majored in fisheries biology. He later was accepted in the college of veterinary medicine at Kansas State University and graduated from KSU in 1959.
He married Elizabeth Ann Bartley on Aug. 19, 1956, in Great Bend. He practiced veterinary medicine in Russell for 46 years until his health forced him to retire. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, David Erwin, Jasper, Ga., and Matthew Erwin, Urbandale, Iowa; and a sister, Betty Boggs, Columbia, Mo.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. May 27 at First Congregational Church, Russell; a private inurnment will take place at a later time.
Family will meet with friends the day of the service.
