Kansas State Legislature 110th District Rep. Travis Couture-Lovelady, R-Palco, is running unopposed for his re-election bid.
Couture-Lovelady said he better understands the political process after his first term in Topeka.
"I feel like we've made a lot of great strides in the past few years and feel like there's still a lot more to be done," he said.
His committee assignments have been Federal and State Affairs, and Commerce and Taxation. Topics he addressed included gun rights, allowing home brewers to take their beer to competitions, streamlining business registration and implementing drug testing for recipients of state benefits.
The representative emphasized he seeks to bridge the gap between his constituents and government workers.
Couture-Lovelady said he has helped people resolve problems with road projects, KanCare payments and issues with licenses.
"The government is supposed to work for the people, and I certainly want to make sure that it's as responsive as possible," he said.
He wants to share his rural perspective with his fellow legislators.
"We're definitely a little different in this area than some of the folks in other areas of the state," he said. "Just trying to take those values to Topeka. Try to get a little common sense in that place. Us western Kansans are known for it."
The election is Tuesday.
