Edward Maier, 90, Russell, formerly of Hoisington and Susank, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Russell Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Hoisington to George Jacob and Anna Marie (Daubert) Maier. He attended school in the Susank area.
He married Mildred Tozier on Aug. 24, 1947, in Hoisington. She preceded him in death. He was a contract pumper. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Richard Maier, Kechi; a daughter, Karen Deatherage, Russell; a brother, Sam Maier, Great Bend; four sisters, Martha Bender, Leona Slankard and Eleanora Postlethwaite, all of Great Bend, and Edna Nuss, Hoisington; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church; burial in Russell City Cemetery, with military rites by Russell VFW Post No. 6240 honor guard.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.
Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in care of the mortuary.
