Fidelia (Schmidt) Rome, 95, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at Via Christi Village.

She was born June 23, 1920, in Catharine to Adolph J. and Anna (Staab) Schmidt.

She married Wilfred J. Rome on April 23,1940, in Catharine. He preceded her in death Dec. 24, 2010. She was a baker at Klema’s IGA store in Russell for a number of years before moving to Hays in 1971. She cooked at Travenol for 14 years until their closing and at St. John’s of Hays Assisted Living Center , until retirement at the age of 76. She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and making noodles and hertzchen “hearts” for many people over the years.

She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 9076, St. John’s of Hays Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Hays Community Assistance Center.

Survivors include three sons, Delmar and wife, Deanna, Russell; James and wife, Lynn, Mentor, and William and wife, Marsha, Houston, Tex.; three daughters, Charlene Petty, Olathe; Kathy Gross and husband, Danny, Hays, and Linda Rome, Hays; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Emery Schmidt and wife, Shirley, Catharine, Adolph Schmidt and wife, DeAnn, Gerald Schmidt and wife, Elaine, and Elmer Schmidt and wife, Rosie, all of Hays; two sisters, Cora Dortland, Gorham, and Cyrilla Evans and husband, Maynard, Hays and a sister-in-law, Esther Schmidt, Hays.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Paul Petty; three brothers, Alfred “Al” Schmidt, Herbert (Francie) Schmidt and Celestine Schmidt; an infant brother, Elmer Schmidt; and a sister, Irene Dinkel and husband, Ray.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

A Daughter’s of Isabella rosary and V.F.W. Auxiliary memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m. at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, both at the mortuary.
