DERBY -- The Hays Larks concluded their three-game series with a blowout victory Sunday.

The Larks won 14-2 on Sunday, taking their first game against Derby this weekend.

The Larks moved to 8-6 in the Jayhawk League and 14-6 overall, while Derby dropped to 7-10 in the league and 7-11 overall.

Sunday's game was an offensive slugfest, as each team had double-digit hits.

The Larks finished with 13 hits to Derby's 10, but they made fewer mistakes than Derby, drawing eight walks to Derby's two and committing one error to Derby's two.

Designated hitter Brett Lang finished 3 of 3 with three runs scored, while second baseman Zair Koeiman was 3 of 5 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Larks pitcher Justin Ziegler (3-1) threw six innings and gave up two earned runs, six hits and a walk while striking out four.

Hays actually fell behind 1-0 after four but responded with five runs in the fifth and seven runs in the sixth to take a commanding lead.

The Larks struggled manufacturing runs in the first two games of the three-game series when they lost 6-2 on Saturday and 2-1 in 10 innings on Friday.

Hays had just three hits Friday and seven hits Saturday, drawing a total of two walks in both games.

In Friday's game, starter Shawn Lewick pitched nine innings in a no decision, striking out 10 with two walks. The run that tied the game was unearned for Derby.

The Larks will play at 7 p.m. on the road Tuesday against Dodge City and Wednesday against Liberal. Hays returns home for Jayhawk League action this weekend against El Dorado at Larks Park.
