The fifth annual Wines and Steins event will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 12 in downtown Hays.
The fundraiser for Downtown Hays Development Corp. seeks to draw people to the district and promote businesses, said Alaina Cunningham, DHDC board member and committee chairwoman.
The evening includes a stroll to 15 downtown sites, wine, microbrews, hors d'oeuvres, live jazz music and a live and silent auction. Drinks from local businesses Gella's Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. and Defiance Brewing Co. will be available, and Western Beverage Inc. and Coors also will offer seasonal releases.
The Taste of Downtown component will feature food from Gella's, TK's Smokehaus, Paisley Pear Cafe, Rose Garden Steakhaus and Chestnut Street Kitchens. Other food and beverages will be inside the participating businesses.
The main area for check-in and gathering will be in Emprise Bank's parking lot at 1200 Main. There will be a $1,000 cash giveaway for participants who pay $20 per ticket.
"It just gives people time to interact in the community and see what's available downtown," Cunningham said.
Wines and Steins has been her favorite Hays event since she moved from Kansas City four years ago.
"It's very comparable to major metro areas that have different wine and beer samplings within those areas," she said. "I think it's great that we're a small community that does big things."
Cunningham encouraged attendees to reserve tickets before the event. Call DHDC at (785) 621-4171 for more information.
