GREAT BEND — Including a half-court shot to end the third quarter, the Thomas More Prep-Marian girls’ basketball team got 21 points from Kayla Vitztum on Tuesday night as the Monarchs cruised past Class 5A Great Bend on the road, 65-36.

The win improves TMP, the No. 2 ranked team in Class 3A, to 16-1 with its 14th straight victory. Madyson Koerner added 16 points for the Monarchs, and Megan Koenigsman chipped in 12 with seven Monarchs scoring.

Great Bend fell to 10-7.

The Monarch boys fell just shy of Great Bend, falling 47-40, despite 12 points from Creigthon Renz and 11 from David McFarland. The Monarchs trailed 24-13 at halftime and were outscored 15-8 in the third quarter.

Kody Crosby put up 28 points for the host Panthers.

The Monarchs fell to 9-8 with the loss.

The Monarchs are back to Mid-Continent League action Friday on the road against Stockton.
