WHO: Omicron found in 89 nations

VIENNA – The omicron variant of the coronavirus has been detected in 89 countries, and COVID-19 cases involving the variant are doubling every 1.5 to 3 days in places with community transmission and not just infections acquired abroad, the World Health Organization said Saturday.

Kansas omicron case identified

Kansas public health officials on Thursday confirmed the first case of the highly contagious omicron coronavirus variant. “Since the Omicron variant was classified as a Variant of Concern, KDHE’s Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories has been working to identify the variant in the state,” Acting Secretary Janet Stanek said in a statement.
