The Hays High Indians will play their home opener this weekend at Lewis Field Stadium against the Junction City Bluejays. In the 2021-22 season the Bluejays went 8-2 while the Indians finished their with a record of 8-3.
I’m not sure why, but when I was a kid growing up, my father was always the one who took me to buy my school shoes each year. I normally got three pairs of shoes a year—dressy shoes for Sunday, tennis shoes for gym class and sports, and school shoes, which Daddy said had to be “sturdy and reliable.” My mother always took me to get the first two pairs, but Daddy was the one who took me to get my school shoes.
The Hays Public School system serves a 380 square-mile area of Ellis County with over 3100 students enrolled in one high school, one middle school, four elementary schools, one preschool, two alternative schools and one virtual school.
The Hays High girls’ golf team ran away with the team title to open the season at its own Hays High Invitational. The Indians shot 323 as a team to beat runner-up Dodge City by 67 strokes on Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club.
