Ivonne “Vonnie” S. Burmeister, 83, passed away on September 18, 2022, at the Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, Kansas. Vonnie was born on August 20, 1939, in the Methodist Parsonage in Claflin, Kansas, to Emery E. and Twila M. (Bisbee) Grossardt. She married Ferdinand “Fritz” H. Burmeister on January 23, 1960, in Claflin, Kansas.
Men’s Soccer Moves Back into Top 25 Story LinksKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer moved back into the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings on Tuesday (Sept. 20). After a oneweek absence from the Top 25 and sitting among the receiving votes list, FHSU moved back up to No. 22 this week.
Fort Hays State goalkeeper Isabel Robben was tabbed the MIAA Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 20) for her efforts this past week in contests against Washburn and Emporia State.
Fort Hays State Men’s Golf participated in its first MIAA designated event of the 2022-23 season at the NSU Golf Classic, held at Muskogee Golf Club (Sept. 19-20). The course was a par-71 layout and played at 6,726 yards. The Tigers were seventh among MIAA teams competing in the tournament, while Tanner Copeland tied for 10th among MIAA golfers.
The Hays High girls’ golf team had three medalists and took second at Monday’s Salina South Invitational. Hays High shot 351 to finish five strokes back of winner Manhattan at Salina Country Club.
Ellis High School recognized their 2022 Homecoming royalty and announced their King and Queen at Friday night’s football game. Candidates included William Crawford and Carson North, with Maverick Gnad winning King.
On September 19, 2022, at 9:55pm, the Hays Police Department Communication Center received a report of an unresponsive male inside a house in the 200 blk of West 6th Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. The Hays Police Department and Ellis County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene. Officers arrived on scene and found a 54 year old male lying inside a residence. The man was deceased and appeared to have been beaten. The Ellis County Coroner’s Office was notified and also responded to the scene.
More than 270 student scholarships exceeding $320,000 were awarded to Fort Hays State University business and entrepreneurship students for the 2022-2023 academic year. The awards, announced at the W.R.
