After rushing for 13 yards in the season opener and 132 yards in the second game, the Fort Hays State University football team gained 178 yards on the ground against winless Lincoln (Mo.), then 189 in Saturday’s 25-24 home loss to Missouri Southern.
Recently, the number of fires in the Hays area has increased including a house fire, two dumpster fires, a vehicle fire, and two business fires. While some are still under investigation, Hays Fire Department has ruled that most are unknown if not accidental.

The Hays High girls’ golf team claimed four medalists in winning Thursday’s Hutchinson Invitational. Hays High shot 337 as a team at Carey Park Golf Course, winning by two strokes over Manhattan.
Due to a lack of offi cials after a change in the schedule, the Hays High boys’ soccer team’s scheduled game on Thursday was postponed. HHS and Liberal switched home-andaway dates, but with the switch Liberal was unable to arrange for officials on Thursday.
The 24th-ranked Fort Hays State men’s soccer team defeated Southern Nazarene 3-1 on Thursday (Sep. 29). The Tigers took a 3-0 lead early in the first half and the defense worked to hold off the Crimson Storm to secure the crucial conference victory. FHSU improves to 6-2-3 (4-0-1 GAC/MIAA) and SNU falls to 3-4-3 (11-2 GAC/MIAA).
Virginia Jacqueline Clapp, age 86, Hays, Kansas passed away on Wednesday September 28, 2022 at Hays Medical Center. She was born October 28, 1935 in Salina, Kansas to Anthony and Edith (Pihl) Zamrzla.
