For the second time in two years, students in Fort Hays State University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders brought home firstplace honors from the Prairie Cup Knowledge Quest. The competition, offered as part of the annual Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association conference, was held this fall in Manhattan, Kansas.
The Hays High boys’ soccer team won on Senior Day, defeating Wichita Classical 3-1 on Thursday at the HHS field. Classical (6-10) opened the scoring with a goal by Kai Krieger in the 13th minute.
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan was forced to watch a horror film this week. Instead of a Halloween slasher movie, Shanahan rewatched his most painful loss as a head coach when he put on video of the 49ers’ loss to Kansas City in the Super Bowl following the 2019 season ahead of the rematch against the Chiefs.
The Hays High girls’ golf team finished fifth and had three medalists at the Class 5A State Championships, held Monday and Tuesday at Hesston Golf Course. Hays High shot 342-349 for a 691.

Francis “Frank” Jacobs, 78, of Topeka, Kansas died Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Heritage Gardens Nursing home after battling dementia. Frank was born on October 5, 1944 in Hays, Kansas. He was the son of Edward and Katherine Jacobs. He earned two Masters degrees from the University of Kansas. He married Alice Jacobs in 1978 but she passed in June of 2018. Frank had two brothers Edward Jacobs and Tom Jacobs and one sister, Ephigenia Jacobs. He is survived by his two children Kevyn Jacobs and Dale Jacobs. He has 2 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 17 great step grandchildren.
