Thursday, November 3 the City of Hays City Commission held a work session to discuss 2023 Waterline Improvements as well as fee increases for Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course and Hays Aquatic Park. Jeff Crispin first presented the 2023 Capital Improvement Plan that includes projects to upgrade waterlines in various locations around the city.

Dear Readers, It’s been months since a “soaker” has parked over the Flint Hills, so I didn’t quite trust my brain this morning when it insisted it was interpreting signals that rain had arrived. Funny how our senses work. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes to make sure I was hearing right. Yes the vibrations reaching my ear and then travelling as electrical impulses along my eighth cranial nerve (the auditory nerve) were indeed droplets drumming on the roof like a tympany solo quietly opening an orchestral performance. As the storm intensified, other sound waves rushed in as wind drove water against the windows and down along the gutters. Mother Nature’s water music became so loud, I double-checked faucets inside the house to make sure they weren’t running, too.

Fort Hays State Women’s Basketball fell to West Texas A&M in its season opener at Municipal Auditorium on Saturday (Oct. 5). The No. 6 ranked Lady Buffs, knocked off the No. 3 ranked Tigers by a score of 71-58.
Ethan Doud and Tadhg Walsh of FHSU Men’s Soccer were named to the GAC/MIAA All-Tournament Team, announced following the championship match on Sunday. Southern Nazarene won the tournament by a score of 1-0 over Rogers State, taking the conference’s automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament.

Fort Hays State football defeated Northeastern State 27-14 on Senior Day Saturday (Nov. 5) at Lewis Field Stadium. After a slow start, the Tigers took the lead in the second quarter and held onto it until the end. FHSU improved to 3-7, while NSU fell to 1-9.

The Fort Hays State wrestling team competed at the Dan Harris Open at Baker University on Sunday (Nov. 6). Aidan Johnson was the lone placer for the Tigers, bringing home a runner-up finish at 174 pounds.
