Daily Sick-Absence Notifications and GPS HS cell phone ban in works for USD489

The USD489 Board of Education (BOE) performed its “first read” of the 2024-2025 Student Handbooks during the BOE’s July 15, 2024 meeting. The updated handbook drafts were not made available to the public. However as Superintendent Ron Wilson presented the revisions, he stated that few changes had been made, with the notable exception that parents will have call every day to notify the District of student sick-absences.

The Lowe Down: The influencing of Americans . . .

The crusade to influence others in our society has become a major ambition and for some a full-time job. As people seek attention and relevance, monetary gain and to harvest power, it has never been more important for the average consumer and voter to be vigilant of the power of influence. It’s common on social media to see the average person try to make money by becoming what they call an “influencer”; a person who persuades others to purchase items. In fact, many companies reach out to people to influence their friends or followers to buy products; much like a modern-day Tupperware party or Avon salesperson.

Hays Medical Center Nurse Receives International Award

The International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) honored Jessica Albers, MFS, BSN, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P. with the Virginia A. Lynch Pioneer Award in Forensic Nursing, the Association’s highest award, at a presentation held at Hays Medical Center (HaysMed) in Hays, Kansas on Friday, June 28, 2024. Albers is Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner at Hays Medical Center. The award is named for Virginia Lynch, known globally as the “mother of forensic nursing.”
