2024 Wheatshocker Nationals Recap

Ellis County Fair week got kicked off with the 2024 Wheatshocker nationals with the highly anticipated return of the United Rebel Sprint Series 305's. Joining the sprints were the cruisers, sport compacts and stock cars on Friday. Saturday saw the sprints, sport mods, modifieds and hobby stocks.

Great Bend Economic Development receives grant funds from the Patterson Family Foundation for IGNITE Innovation Center project

Great Bend Economic Development (GBED) is pleased to announce the receipt of $394,000 from the Patterson Family Foundation Thriving Rural Grant program. The grant funds will allow GBED to purchase equipment and furnishings for the IGNITE Innovation Center, a multi-purpose community facility that will provide essential resources to the Barton County area.

HRC increases City's stop-loss on pools to $40,000

On July 11, 2024 the Hays City Commission unanimously approved an updated Pools Service Agreement with the Hays Recreation Commission (HRC.) Director of Parks Jeff Boyle stated, as he presented three HRC renewals covering a variety of recreational needs, that most of the changes in all the agreements were made for clarification purposes or were funding related. The Commission also unanimously approved updated with agreements with HRC for additional services (beyond the resources of the Parks Department) at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex and all recreational facilities within all public parks.

CC Steel Awarded 2024 Sewer Line Repair Project

The Hays City Commission voted unanimously on July 11, 2024 to award the contract for the 2024 Sewer Line Repair Project to C.C. Steel, LLC of Fargo, ND in the amount of $299,697.50 with a budget not to be exceed $350,000, to be funded from the Water Reclamation Capital. C.C. Steel was the sole bidder on the work to complete a combination of both trenchless and open excavation sanitary sewer point repairs at 73 locations within Hays.
