The Hays City Commission began their Sept. 12, 2024, with reorganization, unanimously electing Commissioners Sandy Jacobs and Mason Ruder as Mayor and Vice Mayor respectively. The Commission also readopted the City of Hays City Commission Rules of Procedure.
The Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs have moved to 1-1 on the season following a home loss to the Norton Bluejays Friday night at Lewis Field Stadium.
The Hays High Indians notched their first win of the season with a 42-7 routing of the Wheat Ridge Farmers Friday night.
Eighty-two race teams checked into the legendary RPM Speedway for championship night racing, Gage Porter, Blaine Walt, Zach Olmstead, Kyle Pfeifer and Daniel Gottschalk taking home feature wins. The 2024 season track championships were awarded to Rileigh Flohrs, Olmstead, Walt, Pfeifer and Gottschalk.
During the Sept. 10, 2024, Ellis County Commission meeting, Commissioners unanimously approved the Whispering Gales Addition final plat application and Resolution 2024-12 to establish the creation of the Whispering Gales Addition to Ellis County, Kansas.
On Sept. 10, 2024, following a Public Hearing and discussion, County Commissioners unanimously approved the published proposed 2025 $34,668,601 General Fund Budget with a mill levy tax rate of 35.985, meeting the Commissioners stated goal to lower the mill levy from 2024’s 36.624.
After taking its first loss of the season last week at Northwest Missouri State, Fort Hays State Football slid back among the teams' receiving votes in the latest AFCA Top 25 Poll. The Tigers were in the receiving votes section of the preseason poll and moved up to No. 25 last week after a 2-0 start to the season. They have been referenced in all three polls released by the AFCA this year.
