Thomas More Prep-Marian celebrated their Homecoming game and dance over the weekend, crowning Shyanne Yost and Jace Windholz as queen and king at halftime of the TMP-Stanton County game. Yost is the daughter of Greg and Candace Yost, Windholz the son of Dan and Melissa Windholz. Against the Trojans, the Monarchs notched their largest victory this season, taking down their opponents 50-7. Read more on A6
At the Sept. 26, 2024 City Commission Regular Meeting Deputy City Manager Collin Bielser announced that four new dump trucks for the Public Works Service Division have arrived and that staff had undergone in-depth training on their use by a representative of Wichita Truck Company. He said that he included this item in the Monthly Progress Report to remind everyone that it took two and a half years to get these trucks, as they were a 2022 Budgeted item.
It was first and frequent for the Monarchs offense as they put up a 50-7 victory over Stanton County Friday night in their district opener. The Homecoming celebration began quickly as TMP reached the board within the first two minutes, doing all of their damage in the first half of the contest.
Hays High opened conference play on the right foot, defeating Garden City 41-8 and improving their season record to 2-2. The first touchdown of the contest came in the second quarter on an Ian McGuire 16 yard dash to the endzone. At 7-0, the Indians were quick to regain possession, scoring again as Holden Lind found the end zone from three yards out.
The City of Hays Commission on Sept. 26, 2024, following discussions, voted unanimously to take actions furthering three private sector partnerships which have been in the works for several months.
The Fort Hays State volleyball team took the opening set at Central Missouri Saturday evening (Sept. 28) before the Jennies rallied to win in four sets, 25-23, 15-25, 13-25, 16-25. The Tigers are now 9-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play after seeing their eight-match winning streak come to an end, while the Jennies move to 5-6 on the year and 1-1 in MIAA contests.
The Fort Hays State men's cross-country team placed 11th in a field of 26 schools Friday morning (Sept. 27) at the sixth running of the Gans Creek Classic. The Tigers were second amongst NCAA DII competition, racking up 283 points across the top five runners. Two Tigers placed in the top 20.
The Fort Hays State women's cross-country team captured the team title in a field of 26 schools Friday morning (Sept. 27) at the sixth running of the Gans Creek Classic. The Tigers compiled 40 points atop their top five runners, with all five finishing inside the top 25 out of 310 runners.
