Rain a boon for County Road maintenance, extends Catharine Road construction/closures
On May 1, Ellis County Public Works (PW) Director Brendan Mackay stated that overall County roads are in “great shape,” with a few isolated areas where heavy rainfalls have resulted in edges of the road washing away and debris from the fields washing and plugging the drainage structures. He explained that these rains did slow the Catharine Road Projects because all of the territory operators were needed in their districts.

No. 19 Baseball Drops Opener at Rogers State
The 19th-ranked Fort Hays State baseball team dropped the opening game of its final regular season series Thursday (May 1), losing at Rogers State 6-5. The Tigers (32-13, 26-8 MIAA) led 3-0 and 5-2 before the Hillcats (27-19, 17-17 MIAA) scored the final four runs to take the lead for good.
Hays sweeps Liberal to remain WAC top dog
Hays has maintained their top spot in the Western Athletic Conference, with just one blemish on their conference record to Great Bend. With just eight games remaining this season, pitchers Cooper Johnson and Jonathan Cano remain atop the pitching leaderboard in ERA, WHIP and wins.
