The Fort Hays State University Alumni Office has announced nominees for its three honorary commencement awards. Recipients of each award will be announced at a press conference on Tuesday, May 6, at 9 a.m.
On May 1, Ellis County Public Works (PW) Director Brendan Mackay stated that overall County roads are in “great shape,” with a few isolated areas where heavy rainfalls have resulted in edges of the road washing away and debris from the fields washing and plugging the drainage structures. The 19th-ranked Fort Hays State baseball team dropped the opening game of its final regular season series Thursday (May 1), losing at Rogers State 6-5. The Tigers (32-13, 26-8 MIAA) led 3-0 and 5-2 before the Hillcats (27-19, 17-17 MIAA) scored the final four runs to take the lead for good.

Deputy City Manager Collin Bielser indicated in his April 24, 2025 Progress Report to the City Commission and again this week in follow-up comments to The Hays Daily News on April 29, 2025 that despite recent rains both the 32nd/33rd and 13th Street Reconstruction Projects are on schedule. “On 33rd St, reconstruction is moving right along.
