Hannah Lee Receives Hill City High's 2025 Edna Dean Harrell Family Scholarship
The Hill City, Kansas, High School Alumni Scholarship Program (HCHSASP) has announced that this year’s winner of the annual Edna Dean Harrell Family Scholarship is Hannah Lee. She is a 2025 graduate of Hill City High and was awarded $5,000 to support her continuing education.
City Sales Tax collection continues upward trend
For the second month in a row, compared to last year, the City Sales Tax collection for June 2025 increased and Hays Finance Director Kim Rupp reported on July 24th that the Year-To-Date (YTD) general fund sales tax is still “trending up.”
Sewer line replacement added to O'Loughlin Bond Construction project

The USD489 Board of Education (BOE) unanimously approved the Elementary, HMS, and virtual school handbooks on July 14, 2025. On July 21, 2025, at the BOE’s Special Meeting, the Board approved 6-1 the HHS Handbook.
33rd St Reconstruction completed, 13th opened up to two-way traffic
Residents impacted over the last several months by the 33rd St Reconstruction project have no doubt noticed that the project recently wrapped up. As Deputy City Manager Collin Bielser reported the completion of the project to Hays City Commissioners on July 24, 2025, he noted that the 33rd St Reconstruction projected finished nearly three months ahead of its September 30th deadline.
