County Commissioners explore bonds and sales taxes as ways to avoid raising property taxes

On July 15, 2025, Ellis County Commissioners expressed serious interest in funding four projects by issuing bonds next year. The four projects, estimated to total nearly $10M include the replacement of Ellis County Courthouse HVAC system (estimated cost $3.5M,) renovation of the Ellis County Sheriff’s office (estimated cost $3M,) a new Emergency Services Center (EMS) in Ellis (estimated cost $2M,) and replacement of 110 fan coil units in the County Administrative Building (estimated cost $1.25M.) “As the Commission knows, we have been discussing several of these projects over the course of the past year and the Commissioners have suggested that we look at doing to a bond to help fund these projects because they are needed, but we just don’t know when,” said County Administrator Darin Myers.
