GREAT BEND -- The Hays High School girls' tennis team tied for second place at the WAC tournament on Monday, played in Great Bend. The Indians finished with 10 points to match the Panthers, while Garden City's 12 points took first place. Dodge City's five points and Liberal's three points rounded out the scoring.

HHS junior Brooke Forinash took second as the team's No. 1 singles player. She cruised to back-to-back 8-1 wins over Dodge City's Skylar Childress and Great Bend's Rebecca Dawson before an 8-5 win over Liberal's Tierra Stoney. She fell in her final match, an 8-0 loss to Garden City's Sofia Mattson.

Freshman Sarah Wyse, the Indians' No. 2 singles player, took first in her flight, sweeping through all four of her opponents. She defeated Dodge City's Leah Stein (8-3), Great Bend's Addison Westhoff (8-1), Liberal's Valery Esqueda (8-3) and Garden City's Megan Bordewick (8-0).

The No. 1 doubles team of junior Fabi Pyschny and senior Emily McPherson took third, going 2-2, and the No. 2 doubles team of junior Sylina Zhang and freshman Gabby Taliaferro took fourth, going 1-3.

Hays High now turns its attention toward Friday and Saturday's Class 4A regional, which will be played at McPherson.
