Northern Valley 76, Otis-Bison 26

OTIS -- Northern Valley moved to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in Eight-Man Division II, District 7 action by ending the game in the fourth quarter via the mercy rule. The Huskies racked up 666 yards of offense, compared to Otis-Bison's 292. Northern Valley was led by 199 yards rushing and four scores from quarterback Matt Stutsman, and 204 yards and four rushing scores for Carson Wallace. Phillip Bryant added 158 yards and two scores for the Huskies, who had 577 yards on the ground. Stutsman added 89 yards passing and a score for Northern Valley.

Brad Lightfoot rushed for 117 yards and a score for the Cougars, while Kade Urban added 93 rushing yards and a pair scores, and passed for 82 yards with a score.

The Huskies, whose two losses are to Thunder Ridge and Victoria, still have a shot to make the playoffs, if they can secure a big win at home against Beloit/St. John's-Tipton (6-2) at home. St. John's-Tipton would earn the second spot behind Victoria with a win. St. John's-Tipton defeated Thunder Ridge, 54-50, in other action Friday. Northern Valley, SJT, Thunder Ridge, and Otis-Bison, mathematically are still alive for the playoffs.

OSBORNE -- In a battle for a playoff spot in Eight-Man Division I, the defending state champion Bulldogs outlasted Wakefield in overtime. Osborne quarterback Jake Tiernan threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 30 and another score for Osborne. The Bulldogs' win sets up an unbeaten showdown Thursday at Hanover for the District 4 championship and home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Richard Zieters had 175 rushing yards and three scores for Osborne, while Cullen Grabast had 14 carries for 67 yards and a pair of scores. Tiernan found Brandt Wolters (eight catches, 76 yards) for a score, and Parkes Wolters (three catches, 64 yards) for the other.

Ellis 34, Sublette 14

ELLIS --  Ellis had its playoff hopes dashed, but not by its own loss. The Railers were eliminated after Oakley defeated Plainville, but the Railers secured their fourth win by defeating Sublette. Jared Pfeifer had 14 carries for 224 yards and three scores to lead the way in the victory. Easton Smith completed 8 of 22 passes for 82 yards and one score to Dalton Hensley, and Hensley capped the scoring with a 37-yard punt return for a TD. Ellis closes out its season at home Friday against Plainville (2-6). Plainville fell, 41-20, to Oakley. Oakley will play host to La Crosse for the 2-1A, District 7 championship Friday.

La CROSSE -- Last year's 2-1A state runner-up Leopards were able to use some reserves throughout the game against one-win Wichita County. Nine different Leopards carried the ball in a 153-yard rushing effort. Andrew Jay led the way with 53 yards on six touches with one score. Sheldon Schmidt had two carries for 26 yards and a score, while James Johnson garnered four carries for 12 yards and two TDs. Jack Garcia had a touchdown pass to Chase Klozenbucher. La Crosse travels to Oakley on Friday with the Class 2-1A, District 7 title on the line.

The winner between Ness City and Hodgeman County (7-1) on Thursday in Ness City earns the second spot behind district champion Spearville (8-0).

HILL CITY -- Logan-Palco's win eliminated Hill City from playoff contention out of Eight-Man Division I, District 8. Had Hill City won, the Ringnecks still would have had a chance to make the playoffs in Week 9 against Oberlin, but the loss, coupled with an Oberlin win this week means Oberlin is the district champion, and Atwood (5-3) is the district runner-up with a 4-1 district mark. Oberlin defeated Atwood, 52-44, for the district title in the Red Devils' first year of eight-man.

Josh VanLaeys passed for 106 yards for Logan-Palco, while Riley Nyp carried the ball 17 times for 84 yards and three scores. Hill City closed out the season Thursday against Oberlin, while Logan-Palco ends 2014 at home against St. Francis (4-4).

SMITH CENTER -- The Redmen kept their playoff hopes alive, coupled with a Phillipsburg win against Ell-Saline on Friday. The Redmen got 104 yards rushing and a score from Brody Frieling, and 97 yards with two scores for Nick Lehmkuhl in the win. The Redmen can force a three-way tie in the district with a win Friday at Phillipsburg, coupled with a likely Ell-Saline win at Republic County. If Smith Center loses, the Redmen miss the playoffs, and Phillipsburg will earn the undefeated district championship, and Ell-Saline will be second, regardless of what happens in its game against Republic County.

NORTON -- Norton wrapped up the Class 3A, District 13 championship by jumping out to a 27-0 lead at home against Beloit. Jordan Dole rushed for two scores and threw a TD pass in the victory. Norton wraps up the season Thursday in Hays against Thomas More Prep-Marian (0-8). A win would give Norton its first undefeated regular season since 2010. Beloit closed the regular season with a playoff spot on the line against Russell (2-6).
