Ludwina Schaffer, 94, La Crosse, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse.

She was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Ellis to George and Katharine (Boos) Begler. She was a resident of La Crosse since 2002, moving from Denver.

She married Clarence Schaffer on May 1, 1939, in Loretto. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1998. She was a homemaker and an Avon representative for many years.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Michael Altar Society, both of La Crosse.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth LeRoy Schaffer and wife, Shirley, Byers, Colo.; two daughters, Geraldine McGinn and husband, Emmett, and Joyce Marie Schaffer, all of La Crosse; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepmother, Julia (Reidel) Sawazhki; a son, Robert Lee Schaffer; five brothers, George Begler, Jacob Begler, John Begler, Conrad Begler and Peter Begler; three half-brothers, Henry Begler, Theodore Begler and Andrew Begler; two stepbrothers, Julius Sawazhki and Richard Sawazhki; two sisters, Mary Waldschmidt and Rosalia "Sally" Reidel; a half-sister, Anna Evans; and a stepsister, Mary Giebler.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse; additional services will be at 11 a.m. Mountain time Tuesday at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, Colo; burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wheat Ridge.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael Catholic Church or Locust Grove Village, both of La Crosse, in care of the funeral home.
