HAYSVILLE -- The Hays Larks and Haysville Heat took turns taking the lead in Wednesday night's Jayhawk League game.

But the Larks had the lead last, winning 12-11 against the first-place team in the league. The two teams have split the first two games of the series, with the final game tonight.

Hays (20-12 overall, 14-10 Jayhawk) led 6-0 before Haysville (21-12-1, 17-11) got four runs in the fourth. The Larks responded wit three runs in the top of the fifth, but the Heat scored four in the home half to get within 9-8.

The Larks got a run in the top of the sixth. but the Heat scored twice in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 10-10.

Haysville then scored a run in the seventh to take its first lead, but Hays scored twice in the eighth to take the lead for good. Aaron Cornell hit an RBI double and Cody Gougler singled in the go-ahead run.

Nick Goza, the fourth Larks pitcher, went 11βΡ3 innings to improve to 4-0. Michael Burchett pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his seventh save.

Cornell also hit his seventh homer and drove in four runs. Ethan Leiter also homered for Hays, a two-run shot in the third, his sixth of the season, and added a three-run double to finish with five RBIs. Leadoff man Sean Wilson hit a double, walked three times and scored four runs.
