Shanna Dinkel is a Hays USD 489 assistant superintendent.
Dinkel had been serving as the school district’s curriculum director, and the change was listed on the personnel transactions approved by the board of education Monday evening as a transfer.
Before being named curriculum director, Dinkel was Hays Middle School assistant principal. She also has served as a teacher, interim principal and the Learning Center coordinator in the district.
Assistant Superintendent of Special Services Mark Hauptman is retiring, and his replacement will be a special-education director, not an assistant superintendent, Superintendent Dean Katt said.
Katt also is leaving the district at the end of June to go to an Independence (Mo.) school district.
The BOE is conducting a search for a new superintendent, but it will take time for someone new to get to know the district once hired, he said.
“They’re not going to have any historical knowledge,” Katt said.
Katt said he recommended the board make Dinkel an assistant superintendent since “she’s going to be the one with institutional knowledge, it would probably be better that she have the title and make the kind of decisions” an administrator would make.
Chuck Smith, HTK Architects, discussed key information about project delivery methods for the proposed bond issue — design-bid-build and construction management “as you try to determine what type of delivery you’d look for in a construction project.”
Technology Director Scott Summers updated the board on a proposed purchase of approximately 150 devices for K-8 teachers at an estimated cost of $650 to $690 each.
The BOE had a 20-minute executive session with Katt, Dinkel and board attorney Bill Jeter to discuss non-elected personnel.
