Attack on Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy occurred Dec. 7, 1941. Ninety minutes after the attack began, 2,008 sailors were killed and 710 were wounded; 218 soldiers and airmen (who were part of the Army) were killed and 364 were wounded; 109 marines were killed and 69 were wounded; and 68 civilians were killed and 35 were wounded.
In total, 2,403 Americans died, and 1,178 were wounded during the attack.
This attack led our entry into World War II.
As a Vietnam veteran, I believe The Hays Daily News, which has always done a good job in honoring our veterans, really dropped the ball by the omission of any reference to the anniversary of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7.
