Dr. John Edward Carlin, 79, Manhattan, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, after a long battle with cancer at Good Shepherd Hospice House.
He was born July 17, 1936, in Salina, to Lucy Stanley Hite and John Everett Carlin.
He was a successful business man, community leader, educator and theologian. He was a priest in Hays in the late 1960s.
Survivors include his wife, Sydney, of the home; three sons, Blaine, Omaha, Neb., Ryan, Atlanta, and Mike, Mattawan, Mich.; a daughter, Becce Juska, Garden City; 13 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan; burial in Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan, and from 6 to 7 p.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Pierre and Juliette, Manhattan, followed by a vigil and wake service at 7 p.m., both at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Manhattan Emergency Shelter in care of the funeral home.
