The cause of a fire in Meadow Acres Park on Saturday has been determined to be accidental.

The Ellis County Rural Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at approximately 3:40 p.m. Saturday to a home in the park, 1500 W. 27th.

The structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, according to a release from Darin Myers, chief of the Ellis County Rural Fire Department. Four rural fire companies consisting of 19 firefighters, three engines, two tankers and two utility vehicles responded, with the Hays Fire Department providing mutual aid.

The fire was under control at approximately 4:13 p.m., and companies released from the scene at 4:45 p.m. One rural fire company stayed on the scene until 6:30 p.m., when it was turned over to the Office of the State Fire Marshall. The fire marshall’s office concluded the fire to be accidental, with an undetermined cause.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Medical Services, Hays Police Department and American Red Cross also responded to the fire.
