SALINA -- The Hays High School girls' swim team opened its spring season on Thursday at Salina South, finishing fourth out of five teams in each of its meets. Two concurrent meets took place so Salina Central and Salina South never had to directly compete with each other.

The Indians' best individual swimmer on Thursday was freshman Ana Goodlett, who finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2 minutes, 47.36 seconds, and took second place in the 500 free with a time of 6:48.32.

Other notable individual finishers for Hays High were senior Tiffanie Thiede in the 200 free (seventh place in 2:56.78), freshman Lakin Ditter in the 200 IM (seventh place in 3:06.84), junior Emily McPherson in the 50 free (fifth place in 30.24 seconds), Ditter in the 100 butterfly (fourth in 1:29.38), and senior Mackenzie Lewis in the 500 free (sixth in 7:16.90).

The 200 medley relay team of Lewis, Goodlett, McPherson and junior Ashley Cossaart took fourth with a time of 2:23.37.

Salina Central won its respective meet with 434 points and Great Bend won the other with 472 points. Hays High finished with 232 and 247 points, respectively.

The Indians will next travel to Great Bend for a 4 p.m. meet on Thursday.
