BUNKER HILL -- Residents of Bunker Hill were without natural gas service today after an excavator dug through a natural gas line serving the city, utility Midwest Energy announced.

Midwest Energy crews were on the scene this morning repairing the gas line.

This afternoon, Midwest Energy is notifying residents by phone, and servicemen will be going door-to-door through Bunker Hill to purge gas lines of air and to re-light pilot lights for an estimated 67 homes and businesses.

Given the bitter cold temperatures expected in the coming days, Midwest Energy is concerned there might be people out of town for the holidays, and crews won't be able to access those premises to restore service.

Midwest Energy is asking for neighbors to help notify these out-of-town residents to gain access to their property.
