Warren James Friess, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Rhode Island Suites, Ransom.

He was born Jan. 3, 1932, to Mathias and Mayme Roths Friess.

He married Naomi Garside on April 13, 1968 in Livermore, Calif. She preceded him in death Sept. 24, 1988. He was a cook for most of his life including his 20 years in the Navy. He served on many ships including the USS Yorktown CVS-10, USS Oriskany CVA-34, USS Orono YTB-190, USS Hornet CVS-12, and the USS Coral Sea CVA-43.

Survivors include six brothers, Elmer, Easton, Pa., Donald, Dodge City, Harold, Topeka, Frederick, Hays, Maurice, Ransom and Daniel, Spearvill; six sisters, Janice Hornung, Spearville, Sister Janice Friess, Wichita, Anna Mae Ferguson, Lebanon, Mo., Mary Frances Flax and Rosella McLain, both of Ransom and Cathy Ator, Prairie Village; a step-granddaughter, Dottie Lynn; a step great-granddaughter, Dianna Valin-Ensminger; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step- daughter, Doris; four brothers, Cletus, Lewis, Eugene, Bernard; and two sisters, Laurene Marvin, and Marjorie Flax.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Church, Ransom; burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Ransom.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie, Dodge City, Rhode Island Suites, Ransom, or Masses, in care of the funeral home.
