DODGE CITY -- Alex Ellison continued his streak of solid outings, but received a no-decision as Caleb Hawkins allowed two runs in the eighth inning, and the Hays Larks lost, 5-3, on Wednesday to the Dodge City Athletics.

Ellison, a Fort Hays State University product, delivered his eighth straight start of at least six innings.

He allowed 10 hits with three runs, all earned, with a strikeout and a walk. Ellison is now 2-0 with a 2.13 earned-run average in 251βΡ3 innings. Michael Freeman threw an inning of scoreless relief and Hawkins permitted two runs in the eighth and dropped to 0-2.

The Larks now are 14-8 overall, 8-7 Jayhawk League. Dodge City is 10-7, 9-6 in league play. Dodge City is now in second place, El Dorado third and Hays fourth. The trio is separated by percentage points. Liberal is in first place. Hays is 1-3 on a five-game road trip.

Dodge City had 13 hits, three more than the Larks. Aaron Cornell had a two-hit game, including a double, and scored a run. Only one of the Larks' runs was earned. Hays scored a run in the fifth and two in the eighth.

Dodge City had single runs in the first, second and fifth and tallied two runs in the eighth. Dodge City scored the winning runs on a single, hit by pitch, sacrifice bunt, a RBI groundout and an RBI single.

The Larks are at Liberal tonight for a single game before a day off. Then Hays will open a three-game series at home against El Dorado on Friday.
