The Hays High School football team completed the trifecta this week, when it was announced senior quarterback Alex Delton was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Bo Black the WAC Coach of the Year. This comes after HHS went 4-0 in WAC play en route to its first conference crown since 2012.

Delton, a Kansas State University football commit, was the conference's total yards leader this season. He rushed for a WAC-best 1,519 yards, nearly 500 yards more than the second best rusher, and passed for 1,402 yards, second in the conference. He combined for 30 total touchdowns.

Black, in his first season leading the Indians after 13 years at Great Bend High School, guided HHS to a 7-2 overall record.

Along with Delton, earning first-team honors from Hays High were senior linemen Brandon Hardwick and Craig Dreiling, and senior receiver Hayden Kreutzer, who was third in the conference with 633 receiving yards and tied for second with seven receiving touchdowns.

Defensively, the Indians had three first-team selections in sophomore defensive end Shane Berens, junior linebacker Connor Rule and senior linebacker Ethan Deterding.

Honorable mention honors went to junior Braydon Delzeit, senior Trenton Henningsen, senior Adam Klaus, junior Keith Dryden, senior Garrett Pfannenstiel and junior Maddux Winter.
