Monday’s game between Hays High School and Great Bend went scoreless for more than 70 minutes in Great Bend, but a late goal gave the Indians (7-3) a 1-0 road victory.

Sierra Brown netted the game’s only goal in the second half for the Indians, who were shorthanded and played a number of girls out of position, according to coach Jim Maska. Freshman Cori Isbell recorded the assist on Brown’s goal, the junior’s second in as many games.

Senior goalkeeper Taylor Groen-Younger and the Indian defense kept the Panthers off the board for the final 10 minutes, preserving the clean sheet and the victory. Groen-Younger made three saves on the day.

The Indians out-shot Great Bend 17-4.

Hays High returns to action on Thursday for a cross-town matchup with Thomas More Prep-Marian. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.
