The Thomas More Prep-Marian volleyball team improved to 13-2 and 7-0 in the Mid-Continent League with three wins in the Phillipsburg quadrangular Tuesday.

Smith Center was the first victim, as the Monarchs won their first match in the third set 25-18, 20-25, 25-18.

The Monarchs also needed three sets to get past the host Panthers. TMP took the first set 25-11 before Phillipsburg took the second 25-20. Natausha Dreher’s squad ran away with the decisive set, winning 25-12.

TMP made its last match a quick one, getting past Ellis 25-23, 25-15.

Picking up three MCL victories appeared to be a team effort. The Monarchs had a different leader in five statistical categories.

Junior Madyson Koerner tallied 24 kills across the three matches, which led the team. Classmate Kendra Werth anchored the Monarchs’ defense, recording 24 digs.

Melissa Pfeifer used her size at 5-foot-11 to block nine attacks on the evening.

Junior Savannah Yost dished out 39 assists across eight sets, and Kayla Vitzum scattered nine service aces in.

Tuesday’s results were not factored into the latest Kansas Volleyball Associations rankings, but the Monarchs held on to their spot at No. 5.

The Monarchs will have the rest of their Homecoming Week off, as they’re slated to return to action Tuesday in a quadrangular featuring Oakley, Smith Center and Hill City.
