The Rev. Thomas Lee Dietz, 68, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, in Katy, Texas.
He was born Jan. 1, 1946, in Hays to John and Martha Dietz and grew up on a farm near WaKeeney.
He played football for Dodge City Community College and went on to try out for the Oakland Raiders.
He was his family's biggest sports fan, attending baseball, football, basketball, soccer and tennis games of family members, as well as dance performances.
He was ordained a minister in the Assembly of God and Church of God for more than 35 years and pastored at churches in Texas and Colorado.
Survivors include his wife of four years, Becky Dietz, of the home; children Chad Pino, Eric Pino, Tiffany Newell, Gloria May and Anita Smith; two brothers, Laverne Dietz and wife, Reah, Greeley, Colo., and Milton Dietz and wife, Dorothy, Hays; a sister, Marlene Johnson; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Gaynelle Dietz; his parents; a brother, Melvin Dietz; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Dwayne Johnson.
He was cremated. Burial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in WaKeeney City Cemetery.
