Jacqueline L. "Jacque" (Schmutz) Thompson, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015.

She was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Junction City to Lester and Alma (Hartman) Schmutz. She was a 1946 graduate of Hays High School and a 1950 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a voice major in music.

She married Billy Thompson in 1970. She enjoyed Hill City and western Kansas, and decided to continue living there. After breaking her ankle in a fall in 2004, she moved from her apartment in Hill City to Dawson Place nursing home. She had a skill as a pianist.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Charles Hayes, Rockford, Ill.; two nephews, Terrill Hayes and wife, Laureen, Mount Vernon, Wash., and John Hayes, Livermore, Calif.; a niece, Paula Stiefel and husband, Thomas, Rockford; a great-nephew, Christopher Stiefel and wife, Krista; two great-great-nephews in Algonquin, Ill.; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Ethel (McDaniel) Schmutz; and a sister, Betty J. (Schmutz) Hayes.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Alida-Upland Cooperative Church; burial in Alida Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Steinmetz Funeral Home, Hill City.
