Timothy "Tim" J. Gustin, 62, Houston, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014.
After growing up in Hays, he began his 18-year career as a professional drummer, which is how he met Leean "Leigh" Ackarman of Garner, Iowa. After only nine months of courting, he shelved his drumsticks for a life with her, who he married in 1988. In 1992, they moved to Kansas City for him to attend Kansas City Kansas Community College. There, he studied mortuary science and served as the Kansas City President of the Lambda Chapter of the Sigma Mortuary Science fraternity.
He worked as a funeral director in the cities of Cresco, Buffalo Center and Lake Mills, Iowa. They moved to Texas in 2008 so that she could live close to her sister, Marnie.
Survivors include a son, Todd Ackarman and wife, Sarah, Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Michele Schwickerath and husband, Kevin, Garner, Iowa and Brenda Ackarman-Sioson and husband, Rudy, Georgetown, Texas; a brother, Jerry Gustin and wife, Karen; nine grandchildren, Ben Goll and wife, Mai Mai, Miranda Schwickerath, Keith Schwickerath, Nick Sioson, Jackson Sioson, Taviana Cain, Tanner Chriske, Tatum Ackarman and Tucker Ackarman; two great-grandchildren, Dionysus and Persephone Goll; a sister-in-law, Marnie Boatman; a brother-in-law, Charlie Scarmardi; many nieces and nephews; and his cat, Sam.
He preceded in death by his wife; and his parents, Jim and Madge [Grosdidier] Gustin.
Services were Tuesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home, Houston, is in charge of arrangements.
