Scott Matthew Olson, 31, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at his grandfather Robert Olson's home in Atwood.

He was born April 2, 1982, in Hays to Rheinhold and Jeaneen (Roy) Olson. At the age of 5, he started wrestling and continued until he graduated Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He also was a black belt in karate. He graduated, with academic honors, from the University of Texas in 2005 with a business administration degree.

He enjoyed politics and participated in a variety of humanitarian efforts such as Habitat for Humanity for Hurricane Katrina, the Catholic Relief Effort and Central America orphanage mission work. While most of his mission work took him to Central America, he traveled to South America, Africa and Europe.

He worked in restaurant hospitality, pharmaceuticals, then in arbitration services for drug and alcohol abuse victims, but mostly loved working on his grandfather Robert's farm near Achilles.

Survivors include his parents, Celina, Texas; two brothers, Robert Olson, Shellsburg, Iowa, and Jonathan Olson and wife, Daisy, and their children, Corbin, Candalin and Keiragan, Maryland Heights, Mo.; and his grandparents, Robert and Sally Olson, Atwood, and Orville and Evelyn Roy, Palco.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Robert and Hattie (Schmidt) Olson, and Dona and Nathalie (Asselin) Roy.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; additional services will be Feb. 1 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Frisco, Texas.
