James Alexander Kohl, 68, Ellis, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born Sept. 10, 1946, in Hays to Alexander and Helen (Weber) Kohl. He was a 1964 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy and received a bachelor's degree in sociology from Fort Hays State University.

He married Jackie Graves on June 5, 1981, in Hays. They renewed their vows in 1991 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellis. He was a self-employed farmer and stockman who enjoyed the farm life and working alongside his family. He was a partner in JAK Oil and Double K Oil Companies.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Dan Kohl and wife, Tina, Schoenchen, Rick Kohl and wife, Kelly, Moundridge, Scott Kohl, Manhattan, and Sean Passmore, Lawrence; a daughter, Kelly Passmore, Benbrook, Texas; his mother, Hays; a brother, Ken Kohl and wife, Diana, Ellis; a sister, Ann Pfannenstiel and husband, Ken, Munjor; and five grandchildren, Russ and Faith Kohl, both of Schoenchen, Trevor and Collin Kohl, both of Moundridge, and Nickolas Passmore, Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637.

A rosary/vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's School in care of the funeral home.
