James Alvin Shaeffer, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Trego Manor Long Term Care, WaKeeney.
He was born in Winsor, Mo., to Albert and Mattie Shaeffer.
He married Rosalie Dinkel in 1950, in Collyer. She preceded him in death. He was a city police officer in Collyer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran in 1946 and was honorably discharged after two years of service.
Survivors include two sons, Tim, Cottage Grove, Ore., and Dave, Santa Clara, Calif.; a daughter, Emmy Jo, Milpitas, Calif.; three sisters, Pauline, Faye and Alberta; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tim.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 24 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Collyer; burial in the church cemetery.
Family and friends gathering will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 23 with a short service at 8 p.m., both at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.
