WaKEENEY — Sunday's death of an Ellis County inmate being held in the Trego County Jail was a result of natural causes, authorities announced Monday.
Trego County Sheriff Richard Hanks said that's what was determined by an autopsy.
The inmate who died had been identified as Paul Darrell Mondary, 43. He was being held in the Trego County Jail on Ellis County charges. He was arrested Jan. 30 in Hays on suspicion of criminal threat and domestic battery.
As required by state law, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation was investigating the death.
Inmates from Ellis County have been held in Trego County as a result of jail remodeling in Hays.
