Louis “Lou” Bell, 78, died Thursday, June 16, 2016, after a battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 16, 1938, in Pueblo, Colo., to Eldon and Helene Bell. His family moved to Hays in 1940 and he was a graduate of Hays High School.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran stationed on the USS Ticonderoga aircraft carrier. After serving four years in the Navy he was a commercial fisherman for five years. He later started working in the construction field.
He was a member of Local 302 for 48 years, the Elks Club and the Eagles Club.
He enjoyed lawn mower racing, bowling, trap shooting, golfing, working in his shop and coffee with friends.
Survivors include his wife, Karen, of 48 years; a son, Scott and wife, Kris; a daughter, Tami and husband, Brad; three granddaughters, Megan and husband, Joe, Natalie and Rachel; and a great-granddaughter, Abygail.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Patricia Danielson.
A celebration of life will be from 1 to 3 p.m. July 16 at Elks Club in Mount Vernon.
